Dodgers select Corey Seager with the 18th pick in the 2012 MLB Draft

Love it! Corey Seager was No. 3 on my big board and has a pretty left-handed swing.

Here's the profile I wrote up on him last month.

The thing that stood out most to me, and pretty much everyone else, was his swing. Also, his defensively ability cannot be overlooked.

"Seager's ceiling is as a middle-of-the-order third baseman with power. In fact, he has legitimate opposite-field power as a left-handed hitter.

Defensively, he's destined for third base. However, he's been athletic enough to handle shortstop in high school. A lot of fringe high school shortstop end up moving positions. If he has enough arm to play shortstop, he likely has enough arm to play third base. It's an entirely different position, but the teenager has ample time and opportunity to learn the position."

I'm surprised this wasn't a pitcher, but am thrilled to see Seager as the pick. The Dodgers have zero impact prospects at third base in the minors, so this pick makes a ton of sense.

He's a big kid a 6'3, 190 and will probably add some bulk as he matures. He just turned 18 and immediately is the Dodgers' best infield prospect and possibly the Dodgers' best hitting prospects. Of course, the Dodgers have to sign him, first.

The slot amount for the No. 18 pick this year is $1.95 million. The Dodgers have a little more than $5.2 million to sign their first 11 picks, so they can't exactly blow all their money on Seager. My guess is he signs for slot or close to slot ($2 million-ish).
