Dodgers promote SS Corey Seager to High-A Rancho Cucamonga Quakes

The Dodgers have known to be aggressive with their prospects -- more specifically their pitching prospects. But they moved perhaps their most advanced hitting prospect in years up to High-A.

Corey Seager was promoted to the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes on Friday. Seager was hitting ..309/.389/.529 with 12 home runs, 18 doubles and 34 walks in 74 games.

While many outside the organization see Seager as a future third baseman, but the organization plans to keep him at shortstop, which means Darnell Sweeney will likely be moved to second base (if he isn't promoted to Double-A, which doesn't seem likely).

Seager, 19, was the Dodgers' first-round draft pick in 2012 and looks like he was a steal at this point.

This is an interesting tidbit from the MLive article:

"Seager doesn't know what the Dodgers' plans are for him, although he passed an Aug. 1 deadline that had many suspecting he would get promoted to Double A Chattanooga. To play in the Arizona Fall League, a player must be on a Double A or Triple A roster no later than Aug. 1."

While it'd be nice to see Seager in the AFL, I don't think the Dodgers needed to be that aggressive. At this rate, though, he could very well begin the 2014 season in Chattanooga.

As Andrew Grant points out, Seager is now the youngest player in the California League.

Brandon Trinkwon, the Dodgers' seventh-round pick in this year's draft, was promoted to take Seager's spot on the roster.
